Squatters in a Pallet Slum

Feb 18, 2010 by

We were out running errands today and came upon a colony of birds that have taken over a stack of pallets.  They were so friendly that I was able to get really close to them to photograph them.  It was a kick to watch them as they socialize with each other and, no doubt, had a conversation about the weirdo watching them.

Those are English Sparrows – they hang out in city parks, supermarket parking lots, McDonalds’ dining patios, etc., so they’re quite used to people! One of the first birds I learned to recognize when I started birding. ;D

Thanks, Suzi. I appreciate the info on them. They were a lot of fun to play with and so cooperative.
